The GigaOM Network announced today the launch of NewNet, a new topic area focused on the rise of the real-time web. Some of the topics that will appear in coming months from GigaOM Pro/NewNet include analysis of social media monetization, the impact of real-time technologies on the enterprise, and much more.

Over the past decade, the Internet has gone from static web pages to a flow of real-time information that has become the lifeblood of an entire generation of new services. Be it a status update about the arrival of a new baby or calls for revolution out of Iran, Twitter and services like them have changed the way many of us communicate in our daily lives. This same trend is disrupting entire industries., creating a need for new computing infrastructure, new business applications and new software tools.

“Since the launch of GigaOM Pro in May, we’ve seen how the worlds of mobile, green IT, consumer technologies, and cloud computing have all been impacted almost daily by the growth of next-generation web technologies,” says VP of Research Michael Wolf. “Because of this and the impact of these technologies on our own business, we are excited to introduce NewNet as our newest focus area for GigaOM Pro.”

Today, NewNet is launching with two new reports, a Quarterly Wrap-up and Research Note on Google Wave, and an in-depth article from GigaOM Network Founder Om Malik, examining the role that real-time technologies will play in changing the way business operate, and interact with their customers.

“The availability of ubiquitous broadband, coupled with a rise in the number of low-cost connected devices, is prompting us to create and consume information in unprecedented quantities,” said Om Malik, Founder of the GigaOM Network. “It is nothing short of a big shift for the web, which is becoming more atomic, more social and more real time. NewNet is going to track this big change, in the process spotting opportunities and challenges, offering insights you can use.”

With NewNet, GigaOM Pro will give its subscribers the additional context around real-time and social web they are looking for. NewNet is the fifth area of coverage for GigaOM Pro, featuring market research reports, in-depth analysis from GigaOM editors, weekly news analysis and the day’s best topic-related news handpicked by NewNet curator Ed Gubbins.
