Gartner, Inc. filed this Form 8-K with the U.S. SEC on January 8, 2009:

On January 8, 2009, Gartner, Inc. announced a reduction in its workforce of 117 employees as part of its efforts to manage operating expenses. The affected positions were spread across various functions and geographies, and consisted primarily of non-quota bearing and non-client facing functions. Notification to affected employees commenced on January 7, 2009 and is expected to be completed by January 12, 2009.

The Company committed to this action in December 2008, and as a result will incur pre-tax expenses of approximately $8.5 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2008, related principally to cash severance costs for terminated employees. Despite these expenses, the Company expects to achieve its most recent full year 2008 projections for revenue, Normalized EBITDA, EPS from continuing operations, and operating cash flow. George Perros has joined ABI Research as Senior Analyst, Location Aware Services (LBS). George came to ABI Research after seven years as principal of his own consulting firm, Applied Data Research.

He is well-versed in the creation of detailed business development strategies, product commercialization programs, and comprehensive market and technology research and analysis.

Previously, George was the Program Manager at Datum Corporation for the GPS NAV payload satellite hardware subcontract, comprising the onboard frequency standards used to generate the precise Global Positioning System timing signals, for the currently-deployed GPS Block II satellite constellation. He has acquired extensive experience in wireless connectivity at Applied Data Research and prior to that as Director for Product Management and Business Development at FreightQuest, a commercial fleet telematics startup. Prior to FreightQuest, he was Manager of Mobile Information Systems at Cummins, Inc. and Program Manager for high-speed computing applications at Mercury Computer Systems.

ABI Research recently recruited Jeff Orr as Senior Analyst, Mobile Content. Before joining ABI Research in November 2008, Jeff was a senior analyst at Montreal-based Maravedis.

“Jeff brings a wealth of wireless industry experience to ABI Research’s Mobile Content research practice including roles as an industry analyst, product and marketing director and a trade association marketing executive,” said practice director Dan Shey.

Prior to joining ABI Research Jeff had his own consulting and marketing service with a client list that included industry research firms, semiconductor and equipment manufacturers, publishers, and Fortune 100 media companies. He authored the “Mobile WiMAX Device Guide”, and as Senior Project Engineer for Corporate New Technology, provided expert market knowledge to The Walt Disney Company on emerging broadband wireless technology trends. He also produced a number of market research reports, and organized trade events for Yankee Group and CMP Media.

Previously, Jeff was actively involved in the formation and strategy of WiMAX Forum, holding volunteer director and board member roles in addition to becoming the trade group’s first employee and serving as the Director of Marketing. Earlier positions included Director, Worldwide Product Marketing at Proxim Wireless Corporation and Product Line Manager at Diamond Multimedia Systems.

Jeff has also served as the Editor for Mobile Broadband News, and has been widely published in industry journals including WiMax.com, Light Reading, Reuters, Computer Shopper and FierceTelecom. An accomplished speaker, Jeff has moderated events and presented on panels at high-visibility events including Broadband Wireless World, CTIA, IEEE WCNC Conference, Intel Developers Forum, MacWorld, NCTA IOC Wireless and WiMAX World.

He is based near Sacramento, California.
